ELECTS NEW OFFICERS
Board continues to guide the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, now celebrating its 20th Anniversary
FORT LAUDERDALE — The Performing Arts Center Authority (PACA) recently elected new officers to lead the 13-member volunteer board that governs the Broward Center for the Performing Arts which celebrates its 20th Anniversary season this year.
Elected to serve two-year terms, the new officers are: Chair John M. Milledge, an attorney in private practice with John M. Milledge, P.A. in Fort Lauderdale and Vice Chair George Platt, managing partner of the Fort Lauderdale office of Florida-based law firm Shutts & Bowen, LLP. Effective, January I, 2011, Platt will become a partner in the LSN Governmental Affairs and Of Counsel to Shutts & Bowen, LLP. North American Company LLP President Charles Palmer retains his post as Treasurer and former Nova Southeastern University President Dr. Abraham S. Fischler was reelected as Secretary.
Milledge, who has served as a member of the Performing Arts Center Authority since 1996, takes office at an exciting time in the Center’s history. Since it opened its doors in 1991, the Center has become an iconic South Florida landmark that has had an important impact on the community. Milledge accepted his new office saying, “As we celebrate the Broward Center’s achievements over the past two decades, this board is committed to continuing the Center’s successful leadership role as a catalyst for economic development, tourism, education, industry innovation and cross cultural exchange. I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with this dedicated board in advancing the goals of the Broward Center as it enters a dynamic era of growth.”
Also continuing their service on the board of the Performing Arts Center Authority are John E. Abdo, Joseph C. Amaturo, M. Austin Forman, Marti Huizenga, Barbara H. Jones, Bernard J. Peck, Christine B. Reynolds, Ramon A. Rodriguez and Anne Scherer.
Distinguished among its peers, the Broward Center was named the Cultural Embassy of Broward County in 2007 in recognition of its efforts to directly link world-class arts and entertainment to broader economic development goals. The Center also offers a nationally-recognized educational program through a unique partnership with Broward County Public Schools that has served more than 2.3 million students and continues to grow. The Broward Center offers more than 700 events each year to more than 700,000 patrons.
Established in 1984 by the Florida Legislature, Authority board members represent every region of Broward County and are appointed by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners, the School Board of Broward County, the City of Fort Lauderdale, the Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority and the Broward Performing Arts Foundation.
